Hey, loves! Let’s talk about something super important: how we show love to ourselves. In a world that often seems fixated on romantic relationships and finding “the one,” it’s crucial to remember that the most important relationship you’ll ever have is with YOU.
So, do you know your love language? For me, it’s words of affirmation and quality time. Recognizing how you like to receive love is the first step toward giving that love to yourself.
Here’s another question: Do you know how to give yourself love in ways that feel nourishing, meaningful, and fulfilling?
When you embrace your love language in ways that truly resonate, your cup is always full—regardless of whether you’re in a romantic relationship or not. This practice helps you avoid relying on others to meet your emotional needs, which can often lead to disappointment.
Your relationship with yourself is everything. I remember wrestling with the question, "How do I give to myself in my love language?" I used to think that some needs could only be met by others. Many of us are waiting for someone else to fill our cups, thinking that will make us happy.
Here’s the truth: the love and affirmation you crave and need come from within.
As I explored this for myself, I realized I needed be more intentional about deepening my practice of quality time with myself. I have always enjoyed solo activities like binge-watching my favorite shows, dining out, walks in the park, or treating myself to massages and manicures. I have also practiced daily affirmations for years. Yet, despite all this, something was missing, I still found myself feeling a bit deprived. I have wonderful friend and family who show me love but still something was missing.
One day, while listening to Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed," I was moved to tears by the lyrics: “Over time, I’ve been building my castle of love, just for two, though you never knew you were my reason.” In that moment, I envisioned a future version of myself singing to me. By the end of the song, I was balling my eyes out. I felt so seen, appreciated, and loved, as if I was the only thing that mattered in that moment.
Replaying that song and soaking in the words filled me with a powerful sense of love for myself. This practice became a game-changer, reminding me that I am the primary speaker of my love language.
Now, here’s the challenge for you: explore what allows you to be the primary speaker of your love language to yourself in a way that is deeply expressed and deeply felt.
